About Ultreya

In the context of Cursillo, a movement within Christianity that focuses on spiritual growth and fostering a deeper relationship with Christ, Ultreya is a powerful and inspiring tradition. The word Ultreya comes from Spanish, meaning “Onward” or “Keep going!” It was originally a medieval pilgrim’s shout of encouragement to fellow travelers on their journey to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. Today, in the Cursillo movement, it carries a similarly uplifting spirit.

Ultreya gatherings are regular, community-focused meetings where participants—known as “Cursillistas”—come together to celebrate their shared faith journey, offer mutual support, and reinvigorate their spiritual commitment. It serves as a reminder that the Christian life is not a solitary endeavor but a communal pilgrimage towards God’s grace and love.

At its heart, Ultreya is a place to:

  1. Celebrate Fellowship: Ultreya fosters a sense of belonging within the Cursillo community, providing a space to connect with others who share a commitment to living out Christian values in everyday life.
  2. Share Witness: Participants often give testimonies, sharing how Christ is working in their lives. These stories inspire and encourage others, reinforcing the transformative power of God’s presence.
  3. Offer Support: In prayer and in conversation, Ultreya meetings allow participants to lift one another up, especially during life’s challenges, reinforcing the bonds of faith and friendship.
  4. Call to Action: Ultreya reminds Christians to continue their mission of sharing God’s love and living out their faith in practical, meaningful ways in their homes, workplaces, and communities.

When you attend an Ultreya, you can expect a joyful and welcoming environment filled with prayer, song, heartfelt sharing, and encouragement. It’s an opportunity to recharge spiritually, be inspired by others’ faith journeys, and recommit to living out your Christian mission with renewed energy.

No matter where you are on your spiritual path, Ultreya is a place to remember that you are never alone. Together, as a community of believers, we continue onward, strengthened by God’s grace and the support of one another. Keep going—Christ is with you every step of the way!
